What Is DC Comics’ Villains Month?

I explore DC Comics’ Upcoming Villains’ Month for September 2013, and include a full list of issues released that month.

WHAT IS VILLAIN’S MONTH?

Joker Villains Month

Remember last year, when DC launched several #0 issues exploring the origins of all their main characters? Superman, Batman, Green Lantern – everyone across the entire range of comics got a #0 that month, meaning that there was no advancement in any ongoing story – but fans got to explore the New 52 Origins of their favourite characters. As I was a digital-only reader at that time, I only picked up the #0 issues for Talon & Batman, with my pullist being considerably lighter than it is now. However, this year – another gimmick has arrived in the form of villain’s month, following the events of Trinity War, a series which will span Justice League, Justice League Dark and Justice League of America as it pits the three superhero teams against each other, the villains will have a month where they get to dominate, and with multiple issues for each comic being shipped in that particular month (all Batman books are getting four issues each, for example), allowing for an entertaining (hopefully) viewpoint of the villains. We’ll get old classics like the Joker and Sinestro, but even a few new faces – for example, The Joker’s Daughter, a new (I think) character to the New 52.

WHAT TITLES CAN WE EXPECT TO BE UP FOR VILLAIN’S MONTH?

Batman #23.2

Following the strict regime of 52 issues a month for the New 52, Villain’s Month will provide us with 52 issues. All priced at $3.99/£3.25 as opposed to the $2.99/£2.75 titles that DC has on most of its titles that aren’t Batman or Action Comics. Even Green Lantern and Wonder Woman have the cheaper cover prices, which I think is something that Marvel should do more often, especially as at least 90% of their current titles (except for a select few, like Hawkeye, Daredevil, Deadpool and Young Avengers) are priced at £2.75 (I’m going to use the UK price from now on as I’m based in the UK), however – they’ve seemed to up the price to £3.25 for this month. Hopefully only for this month, mind you.

Of course, with four issues in this month going to Batman, Detective Comics, The Dark Knight and Batman & Robin, as well as there being four issues for titles such as Justice League of America and Justice League getting four issues, some series are going to not have any new titles this month. 1. Impressive list. Glad to know about characters I have never heard of before. Didn’t know there was a Joker’s daughter and the reverse Flash. Thanks for info

    • I think the Joker’s Daughter is a new character, and I only heard about the Reverse Flash because of the fact that he’s currently the main villain in Flash’s ongoing series at the moment. (which is pretty awesome).
